The College of Criminal Justice Education (CCJE) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Buguey conducted a seminar, aimed at enhancing the capabilities of Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams (BPATs) with the theme, "CREATING CHANGE: A JOURNEY ON EMPOWERMENT (CCJE) IN THE COMMUNITY" on September 12, 2024 at Isabel Antiporda Municipal Gymnasium, Centro, Buguey, Cagayan.

Experts from the Buguey Police Station and CCJE faculty delivered lectures on various topics including crime prevention, laws on dangerous drugs, violence against women and children, human rights, and child protection.

Dr. Daryl Don P. Taguba, College Dean, emphasized the importance of BPATs' understanding of the law to effectively enforce it, "Peacekeeping is everyone's responsibility, not only the Municipal Mayor. That is everyone's responsibility, and you are the person on the ground (the BPATs), particularly facing and confronting people when you acted on your duties and responsibilities.”

Additionally, Buguey PS lecturers PSSG Jayson Augusto, PMSG Edmar Binua Jr, PMSG Melinda Gay Calicdan, and PCPL McAllan Tumbali Jr, tackled "What is Crime: Its Role and Prevention," "R.A. 9165, or The Dangerous Drug Act of 2002," "R.A. 9262, or Anti VAWC Act," and "Arrest Self-defense and Technique," respectively.

Furthermore, CCJE faculty members also shared their expertise. Dr. Crisanto Sait lectured on "R.A. 10364: The Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act of 2012" and "Lecture on Human Rights Violation." Dr. Hemilinda Orenze and Dr. Jennifer Cobales presented their research on the "Performance of BFATs in Buguey." Dr. Oliver Ferrer discussed "Research Dissemination on Child in Conflict with the Law Management Programs in Aparri-Cagayan." Jhandy Bolando, RCrim, covered "Rights of the Child and Juvenile Delinquency," while Mr. Norman Ignacio, JD, explained the "Making of Resolution in the Barangay."

Meanwhile, Hon. Adolfo Miranda Jr., Municipal Administrator, representing Municipal Mayor Licerio Antiporda III, stressed the importance of efficiency and effectiveness for barangay officials in their dual role as public servants and peacekeepers.

The seminar concluded with the distribution of certificates to lecturers and participants, acknowledging their invaluable contribution to the event's success.

This collaboration between CCJE and the LGU of Buguey underscores the commitment to empower BPATs, enhancing their ability to maintain peace and order within their communities.
